Samuel Stanley Starzyk

Samuel Stanley Starzyk, age 75, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at his home in Collinsville, IL. Sam was born in East St. Louis, IL, on September 11, 1950, the son of the late Peter and Mildred (Reican) Starzyk.  He married Dorothy (Schubert) Starzyk on November 7, 1970, in Collinsville, IL.

Sam joined the US Army on June 19, 1970 and served as a field combat medic until his honorable discharge on January 9, 1972. He worked at Norfolk Southern Railroad from 1968 till his retirement in 2010. In his spare time, Sam enjoyed hunting and volunteering with Maryville Outreach.

Sam is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Schubert) Starzyk, of Collinsville, IL; a daughter, Sherri Cooley & husband Coy, of Bethalto, IL; three sisters, Martha Meier & husband Larry, of Edwardsville, IL, Elizabeth Peters & husband Randy, of Colorado, & Marilyn Feichtinger, of Collinsville, IL; and a brother, Tony Starzyk, of Maryville, IL. Sam is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, Craig Feichtinger & wife Tori, Frank Feitchtinger, Paul Meier & wife Angela, Karen Luster & husband Rob, Tony Jr., Jennifer, Emily, Loretta, Cameron-Carrie Trey, Chloe, Molly, Frank Jr., Emily, Charlotte, Kayleigh, Hannah, Matthew (Desiree) Peters, Avonlea, and Claire.

Besides his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his older brother, Peter Starzyk.

Sam was cremated according to his wishes.  Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Maryville Outreach.  Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
