Virginia A. Small

Virginia A. Small, of Bethalto, IL, formerly of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Cedarhurst of Bethalto with her family by her side.  Virginia was born October 22, 1923, in Bloomington, IN, the daughter of the late Paul & Caroline Grace (May) Shertzer.  Virginia married Joe R. Small on May 2, 1943, in Bloomington, IN.  Joe preceded her in death on April 7, 1969.  Virginia is survived by her three sons, Richard Small & wife Yuriko, of Roseville, CA, John Small & wife Gloria, of Edwardsville, IL, Jim Small & wife Debbie, of Fulton, MO; three daughters, Janet Weier, of Oshkosh, WI; Susan Campagna & husband Augie, of Edwardsville, IL, Barbara Small, of Edwardsville, IL; 28 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and a daughter in law, JoAnn Small, of Collinsville, IL.  Besides her parents & husband, Virginia was preceded in death by a son, Edward Small; sister, Peggy Glaze, and son in law, Jay Dunstan.   Virginia was a teacher for the Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 teaching at LeClaire and Hamel Schools for over 20 years, retiring in 1993.  Virginia was a member of the First Christian Church where she was very active.  She was a church historian, choir member, founder of Christian Crafters, leader of Christian Women’s Fellowship, Sunday school teacher, and on the church board.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at First Christian Church of Edwardsville 310 S. Main St. Edwardsville, IL. The funeral service will be on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11:00 am at First Christian Church of Edwardsville with Rev. Jimmy Spear officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com
