Therese M. Svehla, age 63, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away peacefully, with family by her side on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Therese was a two-time breast cancer survivor and fought her third battle with breast cancer bravely. Therese was born in Garfield Heights, OH, on December 18, 1961, the daughter of the late Anthony & Lillian (Schraff) Mamone. Therese married Brian Svehla on September 25, 2004, in St. Clair Shores, MI. Besides her husband of 21 years, Therese is survived by her two sons, Daniel, of St. Louis, MO, and David, of Salt Lake City, UT; two brothers, Peter Mamone & wife Kathy, of Painsville Township, OH, and Bruce Mamone, of Austin, TX; a sister, Gina Blake & husband Pat, of Mentor, OH. Therese was a loving aunt to Chris, Brian, Nicholas, Maureen, Pete, Linda, Sandy, Natalie, and Michael; a sister-in-law, Debbie Mamone; and a dear friend & God mother to her children, Barb Almaguer. Besides her parents, Therese was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Mamone; and a sister, Colette Mamone.
Therese had a huge heart and a passion for helping others. She was often found volunteering or doing charitable work for various organizations in the area including the United Service Organizations, BackStoppers and Mount Grace Convent of the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters. Therese not only excelled in helping friends and loved ones, but also individuals she had no connection to. Therese loved teaching children and devoted her career to underprivileged families as a social worker for over 30 years. Therese had a unique love for every holiday and strived to share that spirit through dress, decoration, and food for everyone. Therese was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville, IL, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, August 1, at St Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon, IL, with Rev. Robert J. Jallas officiating. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield, OH, on Monday, August 4.
