Sidney James Flyte

Sidney James Flyte, age 64, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 26, 2025, at his residence. Sidney was born in Minot, ND, on May 10, 1961, the son of his late parents, Bernice (Weltikol) Fischer & Sidney J, Flyte Jr. Sidney married Joell (Rizzie) Flyte on April 22, 1988, in Edwardsville.  Besides his wife of 37 years, Sidney is survived by his three children, Dominique Flyte, of Alexandria, VA, Addie Flyte & husband Sam, of Raleigh, NC, & Breanna Leake & husband Alexander, of O’Fallon, MO; a grandson, Ryan Leake; two brothers, Greg Fischer, of ID, & Robert Flyte, of Santa Ana, CA; and a sister, Marla Myers, of Maricopa, AZ.  Sidney was a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force serving for 20 years.  After retirement from the Air Force Sidney went on to work construction and machine maintenance at places such as Nooter Construction among others.  Sidney was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. Sidney enjoyed tinkering in his garage, riding his motorcycle, especially along the River Road near Grafton, reading Clive Cussler novels, spending cherished time with his grandson, and helping anyone and everyone in need.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 31, at 11:00 am at St. Ceclia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon, IL, with Rev. Donald Patrick Gibbons officiating.
