Our amazing daughter Shannon LaRowe O’Brien was a victim of senseless violence and died last Friday in North County. Shannon was an extraordinary person in so many ways, and has left behind many grieving family and friends. Shannon loved nature and animals, and especially her beloved bunny Torrance and the many dogs and cats she grew up with. While not a formal church member, she was highly spiritual, and in many ways grew and shared her personal spirituality with those around her. She was such a loving person, and put forth so much effort to continually improve herself and to help those around her. Shannon was so giving, and was wonderful to be around. It’s so difficult to really put into words how important she was to her family and others. Grieving Shannon are her parents, Jean and Jerry O’Brien, her brother Mark, her brother Kevin and his life-partner Jade, along with their daughters Quinn and Willow, her Nana, Katherine (Kay) O’Brien, and Shannon leaves behind a very large extended family of O’Briens and McGurks, along with many friends. The last few years Shannon drove displaced students to school, and she loved the students she got to know.
In lieu of flowers, we would request that a donation be made in her name to one of the following: 1) Shannon was a very strong advocate for social justice, and had a special place in her heart for immigrants and refugees. Therefore, we would request donations to the International Institute of St. Louis; International Institute of St. Louis – Immigrant Services & Community Engagement Hub since 1919. 2) As noted above, Shannon loved animals, and we would request donations to the APA; Pet Adoption, Wellness & Education - APA Adoption Center - St. Louis, MO, where she was planning to adopt a new pet within days of her death.
A Celebration of Shannon’s Life will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. The family plans to share memories and stories at 11:00 am. The family will meet with visitors immediately following until leaving the funeral home for a 2:00 pm graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.
We are so grateful for all of those who have reached out to us. Again, we can’t adequately share how much we will continue to miss our amazing, beautiful Shannon. Condolences may be shared online at weberfuneralhome.com.
