Samuel Dale Zimmerman

Samuel Dale Zimmerman, age 77, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Dale was born on February 3, 1948, in Hopewell, PA, the son of the late Warren & Helen (Sparks) Zimmerman. Dale married Debra D. (Sievers) Zimmerman on October 27, 1979, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas, Illinois. After celebrating 42 years together, Debra preceded Dale in death on October 23, 2021. Dale is survived by a son, Steven (Megan) Zimmerman, of Bethalto, IL; two daughters, Sarah Zimmerman, of Edwardsville, IL, and  Rachel (Danny) Mosser, of Staunton, IL; five grandchildren, Noah & Emily Zimmerman, Anna, Abigail, & Samuel Mosser; three sisters, Barb (Paul) Schmidt, of Marble Hill, MO, Shirley (Mark) Leitner, of Edwardsville, IL, and Brenda (Bill) Rickman, of Bloomfield, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dale moved to IL in his youth. After a brief time at SIUE, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served as a medic in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He was a laborer for many years and enjoyed gardening for the farmers market in his retirement. Dale was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Ministries, enjoying his faith and fellowship with his church family.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. John Shank officiating. Interment will follow at New Douglas Cemetery in New Douglas, Illinois. The family requests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Ministries in Edwardsville or Metro-East Lutheran High School.
