Robert Matthews

Robert R. Matthews, age 92, of Troy, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Addington Place in Edwardsville. He was born February 13, 1932, in Troy, IL, the son of the late Raymond C. & Helen C. (Liebler) Matthews. Robert worked as a carpenter for Carl Mick Construction in Edwardsville, IL, for 25 years, and then went to work for Construction Concepts before retiring. He married his wife of 62 years, Shirley A. Droy on October 25, 1959, at the Troy Presbyterian Church in Troy, IL. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2022. Robert is survived by his daughter, Sheila Mikes of Edwardsville; two granddaughters, Jenny Hacker & husband Scott, Tara Lohmeier & husband Mike; & three great grandchildren. Robert served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1958, he was a member of the American Legion Post 708 in Troy, IL, Carpenters Local 664, and he worked as a volunteer at several children’s homes.

A private graveside service will be held at Friedens Cemetery in Troy, IL, at a later date. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois in care of Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com
