Raymond “Ray” John Perry, age 92, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at his residence in Edwardsville with his family by his side. Ray was born on March 27, 1933, in Glen Carbon, IL, the son of the late John & Leona (Logsdon) Perry. Ray married Velma Ann (Wessel) Perry on September 25, 1955, at Eden Church in Edwardsville. Besides his wife of almost 70 years, Ray is survived by his three children, Steven (Jean) Perry, of Edwardsville, IL, David Perry (Darrell Temple), of Mt. Juliet, TN, & Deborah (John) Miller, of Glen Carbon, IL; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Joy) Perry, of Edwardsville, IL. Jessica (Elliott) Clark, of Granite City, IL, Matthew (Jamie) Perry, of Edwardsville, IL, Sara (Chris) Shaw, of Greenville, IL, & Jonathan (Courtney) Bell, of Collinsville, IL; 7 great grandchildren, Karter, Hadlee, Landon, Adrian, Aleeah, Ryker, & Sophia, and two brothers, John (Monica) Perry, of Glen Carbon, IL, & Leonard (Joanne), of Granite City, IL. Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Sedlacek. Ray was a veteran of the US Army serving as a Sergeant First Class in Korea. Ray graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and worked in law enforcement his entire life. Ray retired after 25 years of service with the rank of Captain from the Edwardsville Police Department. He was also a Federal Court Security Officer in Alton and East St. Louis for 10 years. Ray played baseball from high school all the way to age 55 and was an avid sports fan including the Cardinals and Blues. He enjoyed his many trips to the Alton Belle and his yearly trips with his family to Tunica and Metropolis. Ray was a member of Eden Church.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Eden Church in Edwardsville from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 am with Rev. John Roberts presiding. Interment will be at Glen Carbon City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois, orange north team for the care of Ray.
