Michael "Mic" M. Ranek

Michael “Mic” M. Ranek, age 80, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.  Mic was born in Highland, IL, the son of the late Joseph & Gladys (Koch) Ranek on February 17, 1944.  Mic married Kristi Shellenberg on September 5, 1966, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville.  Besides his wife of 58 years, Mic is survived by a son, Gary (Andrea) Reed-Ranek, of Edwardsville, IL; three grandchildren, Dorian Reed Ranek, Aidan Ranek, Adam Seals, all of Edwardsville, IL; two step grandchildren Willa & Owen Stotts, of Edwardsville, IL; and a sister-in-law; Patty McOwen, of Grafton, IL.  Besides his parents, Mic was preceded in death by a sister; Joe Reilly Cummings; a sister-in-law, Kathy Murray; and a brother-in-law Mike McOwan.  Mic worked at Granite City Steel as an overhead crane operator for 40 years until his retirement in 2002. He was also a member of the US army Reserve.  Mic enjoyed his outdoor activities, especially golf and fishing over the years.  He also liked to work on crossword puzzles.   Mic will be cremated according to his wishes.  Family suggests memorials to Metro East Humane Society.  Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
