Mary E. File

Mary E. File, age 99, of Glen Carbon, IL passed on March 29, 2025, at Eden Village Care Center.  Mary was born on October 18, 1925, in Vandalia, IL to the late Vallee & Dorothy (Mills) Ulmer.  Mary is survived by her three children, David (Dale) File of Edwardsville, Julia (Don) Polk of Tyler, TX and Dorothy File of Glen Carbon, IL; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Rob) Polk of Colorado Springs, CO, Jennifer (Trent) Freeze of Caddo Mills, TX, Diane (Luis) Rodriguez of Eminence KY, John (Allison) File of Brownsburg, IN; and six great grandchildren.  Mary was blessed with and is survived by stepchildren Pat Pendergrass of Madison, GA and grandchildren Paul Pendergrass, Pam Kunz and Paige Hill; Dale (Ruth) Critchfield of Cheyenne, WY and grandchildren Kelly Miner and Karissa Bishop; Kris File of Moline, IL, Debi (Dave) Fortin of Moline, IL, Jon File of Moline, IL and their children Derek Fortin, Sarah Thieme, David File and Christian File.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward Ulmer and husbands Oliver File, Norval Critchfield and Merle File.

Mary worked as a procurement specialist for the federal government over 30 years before retirement.  She was an avid bridge player and was an American Contract Bridge League Life Master.  She instilled the love of card playing in her family and was a founding member of the annual family “Anniversary Party” which continues after 75 years.  Mary was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Edwardsville.  

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 18th, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Edwardsville with a funeral service at 11:15 a.m.    Interment will be at Smith Grove Cemetery in Greenville, IL at 2:30 p.m.  The family requests that any memorials be given to the First Baptist Church of Edwardsville.  Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
