Mark Ax Obituary

Mark Daniel Ax, 41, of St. Louis, MO passed away at 7:30 p.m. on September 16th, 2024, at Mercy Hospital South.  Mark was born on January 24th, 1983, to Daniel Henry Ax and the late Phyllis (Hoffman) Ax. He attended Jersey Community High School, and graduated in 2001. He obtained his Associates degree from Lewis and Clark Community College and worked in the hospitality and financial services industry.

Mark was a very talented writer, and an avid reader who took great pride in his vast hardback book collection. He was freakishly good at puzzles and solving problems, the more challenging, the better. Mark loved watching live comedy and attending concerts, especially of his favorite band, Pearl Jam. It wasn't uncommon for him to see them multiple times during each tour. Additionally, Mark took pleasure in volunteering his time with Stray Rescue by fostering kittens.

Mark was a sports enthusiast, cheering on the St. Louis Blues and watching the St. Louis Cardinals play, a pastime he enjoyed with his dad.

Mark will be remembered for many things, but at the top of the list will likely be his sense of humor. You could always count on him to make a quick-witted joke, and he was the king of sarcastic comments. He made everything more vibrant and fun, and the world is not as bright without him here.

On April 30th, 2022, he married Sarah (Johnson) Ax. On their first date he found out she was a huge STL Blues fan, and he saw a Pearl Jam CD in her car. That night sealed their fate as soul mates, and they spent a total of 7 years together and recently celebrated their 2nd wedding anniversary.

Mark is survived by his wife, Sarah and stepdaughter, Emily Johnson, of St. Louis, MO; father, Daniel Ax and stepmother, Marlene Barni, of St. Louis, MO. He is also survived by his sisters, Andrea Ax, and her husband Garrett, of Edwardsville, IL, Ellen (Ax) Godfrey, of Godfrey, IL; stepbrother, Grant Clark; his favorite niece, Brooke Godfrey; as well as many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis (Hoffman) Ax; grandparents, Robert and Marianne (Giardina) Ax, Herbert and Pauline (Ogle) Hoffman; uncle, Robert Ax Jr.; and cousin, Errin Ax
