Dr. Joseph M. Sim, age 78, of Edwardsville, IL, died Sunday, December 29, 2002, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Visitation was from 4 PM to 8 PM on Friday, January 4, 2003 at the Weber Funeral home. Funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, January 5th, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Edwardsville, IL. Joe attended the University of Puget Sound at Tacoma & graduated from the University of Washington at Seattle. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, A Doctor of Dental Science, and also a Master of Science in Dentistry, specializing in pediatric orthodontic dentistry. Joe taught at the University of Alabama. Was hired as Chair of the combined departments of Pediatric Denitstry and Orthodontics at the new School of Dental Medicine of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, from 1971 until 1987, when he retired as Professor Emeritus. Joe served in the US Army Air Corp as a flight instructor and crew commander on B-17 and B-29 Bombers. Joe served in the National Guard in both Alabama and Illinois. As a member of the Alabama National Guard Joe was activated to serve during the Viet Nam War, providing dental service to the children of the families at Ft. Campbell, Ky. Joe is survived by his wife Patricia Marie (Vaux) Sim. Joe's family includes a son Murray Scott Sim and wife Nancy; daughter Rochelle Marie Dorssers and husband Wille, and son Joseph Max Sim, Jr. and wife Holly Helterhoff; Four granddaughters, Erica and Rebecca Sim, and Latosha and Mariah Dorssers. Also surviving are three brothers: William, Dale and Duane Sim. He was preceded by one brother Robert Sim.
