It is with deep sadness that the loved ones of Joseph D. Hudson, age 87, of Glen Carbon, IL, announce his peaceful passing on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Keyston Place at Magnolia Commons in Glen Carbon. Joe was born on July 26, 1937 in St. Louis, MO. as the youngest of two sons to the late Joseph H. & Viola (Barbeau) Hudson. Joe married Mary Lou (Meng) Hudson on October 2,1954 in Washington Park, IL. Together they shared 48 years of marriage until her passing on March 10, 2003. Joe will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by those who survive him including his devoted longtime companion Kathy Enders of St. Louis, MO; his two grandchildren, Stefanie Hudson of Oakland, CA, and Matthew Rick Hudson of Harvester, MO; and his nephews Randy (Teresa) Hudson of St. Peters, MO, and Timothy Hudson of Troy, MO. In addition to his late wife and parents, Joe is reunited in death with his two children, Joseph Daniel Hudson Jr. and Rick J. Hudson; and his brother, Robert Joseph Hudson. Joe proudly served his country as an Airman 2nd Class in the 308th Bombardment Wing of the Strategic Air Command of the United States Air Force from 1955 - 1959. Joe proudly served in the Air Force Reserves into 1963. From 1959 thru 1995 Joe continued to serve his country in the Civil Service. From 1987 thru 1995 he held the position of Chief of Logistics for Special Operation Aircraft & Aviation Electronic Combat. In 1972 he was awarded the Employee of the year for the St. Louis Area Federal Civil Service. As a dedicated community servant Joe was active in many civic organizations including Ainad Shriners St. Louis, MO., Boy Scouts of America as a Pack Master (1964-1971) and an Alderman from 1969 thru 1983 for the City of Fairview Heights, IL. In his free time Joe enjoyed several hobbies including traveling, antiquing, wood working and dining out for a nice meal. He approached life with curiosity and humor while still maintaining a hardworking and ambitious attitude. A graveside service to honor and celebrate Joe’s life will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests memorial donations to Shriners Children’s Hospital, an organization dear to Joe’s heart.
