Joan Dee Marit

Joan Dee Marit, age 93, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Villas of Holly Brook Bethalto.  She was born December 23, 1931, in Glen Carbon, IL, the daughter of the late Albert & Henrietta (Dee) Nekola. Joan married William “Bill” Marit on September 12, 1953, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Glen Carbon.  Bill preceded her in death on November 27, 2016. Joan is survived by one daughter, Dee Ann Thiems & husband Terry, of Edwardsville, IL; one son, Stephen L. Marit & significant other Sandy Rodowick, of Bethalto, IL; three granddaughters, Tara Chandler & husband Keith, of Edwardsville, IL, Taylor Baker & husband Brandon, of Worden, IL, and Tanya Thiems & significant other Drew, of Worden, IL; and her great grandchildren, Chanclee Chandler, Tinsley Baker, Channing Chandler, and a expectant great granddaughter.  Joan was preceded in death by her parents and brother Norman Nekola. Joan was a lifelong member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Glen Carbon.  She enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress. She was also an avid golfer along with her husband Bill. Joan especially loved all of her family & friends and will be missed by all who knew her.  Visitation will be from 10 am until 11:30 am on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. A funeral mass will follow at 12 pm Friday at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Patrick Gibbons officiating. Burial will be in Glen Carbon City Cemetery.
