Jesse Hessel

Jesse "Ray" Hessel, age 73, of Edwardsville, IL, died January 25, 2003, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Funeral services at 10 AM on Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville, IL. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL. Mr. Hessel owned his own construction company for many years. He then was employed as the Assistant Public Works Director for the City of Edwardsville for 5 years and was a city alderman from 1960-63. He was also a member of the Edwardsville Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville. He was a veteran of teh US Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Viola (Arth) Hessel; 2 sons: Dennis (Ginger) Hessel and Jeffrey (Nancy) Hessel; 1 daughter, Teresa (Brian) Margherio; 5 grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Ringering. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Emil, William and John Hessel, and an infant sister.
