Janice Lash Obituary

Janice M. Lash, 88, of Glen Carbon, IL, and Fort Myers Beach, FL, passed away with family at her side on November 18, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. She was born in Shelby County, IL, the daughter of the late James and Marie (Jones) Hunter.

On August 19, 1956, in Westervelt, IL, Janice married the love of her life, Ronald Lash. They shared 67 wonderful years together before Ron’s passing in February 2023. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to family.

Janice is survived by her four children:

Terry (Julie) Lash of Moro, IL;

Sandra (George) Key of Edwardsville, IL;

Leanne O’Gorman (Robert) of Glen Ellyn, IL;

and William (Beth) Lash of Benton, IL.

She was a proud grandmother to Jason (Kit) Lash, Sara (Ben) Lesire, Julie Webb, Julie Lash, George (Melissa) Key Jr., Alexander (Kat) Key, Madelyn (Cecil) Macgregor, Brian O’Gorman, Jack O’Gorman, Chase Bourgeois, Aimee (Tyler) Brinkmann, and Dylan Lash; and great-grandmother to Eleanor, Henry, Charlie, Luke, Audrey, Sophie, Gavin, and Finn.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Hunter.

Above all else, Janice wanted to be remembered as a mother who loved her children more than anything in the world. She believed deeply in honesty, gratitude, positive thinking, and finding joy in everyday moments. She was endlessly appreciative of the life she and Ron created together and cherished time spent laughing with family and friends.

Janice and Ron first met in high school—she was a cheerleader and he played basketball. She bravely asked him to the Sweetheart Ball, and from there their love story began. Their journey took them to Champaign, then Cedar Rapids, Chicago, Oklahoma City, and eventually Glen Carbon as Ron pursued his career in the meat industry. Through every move, Janice created a warm, welcoming home and offered her family unconditional love and support.

She had a gift for making holidays magical, with beautifully decorated tables, cherished family recipes, and traditions that continue through her children and grandchildren. Janice loved nature, gardening, flowers, writing little poems, and exploring many forms of art. She enjoyed laughter and companionship—whether with her golf group, bridge friends, the Caper Beach community in Florida, or her beloved grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic Rummikub and bridge player and an eager volunteer and leader with local art shows, 4-H, FFA, P.E.O., and investment club over the years.

Kind, loving, and eternally optimistic, Janice always searched for the sunny side of life. Her laughter, warmth, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and forever treasured by all who loved her.
