Jane E. Thompson, age 67, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Concordia Village Care Center in Springfield. Jane was born in Alton, IL, the daughter of the late Thomas W. & Mary E. (Mateyka) O'Laughlin. Jane married Scott C. Thompson on December 12, 1992, in Rockton, IL. Besides her husband of 32 years, Jane is survived by her siblings, Mark O'Laughlin, Sue Wilhelm & husband Ken, Shawn O'Laughlin, Katherine "Kate" McLaughlin, Patricia "Pat" O'Neill & husband John, Terry O'Laughlin, Margaret "Peggy" Julson, and Timothy O'Laughlin; and many nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, Jane was preceded in death by a brother, Todd O’Laughlin. Jane was a graduate of Edwardsville High School Class of 1975 where she excelled in basketball, field hockey, volleyball, and track. She was elected to the EHS Sports Hall of Fame in 1987. Jane also excelled in athletics in college. Jane was a 1979 graduate of Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, where she lettered in field hockey, basketball and softball. After graduating from college, Jane was offered a professional contract to play professional basketball in the Women’s Professional Basketball League, a precursor to the WNBA. Jane was a teacher for 10 years in the Litchfield area, teaching and coaching sports at two local high schools. Jane was a fierce competitor and always up for a challenge, which led her to joining the Illinois State Police in 1990. Jane was chosen for the Illinois State Police Academy Most Physically Fit award upon graduating. After 22 years, Jane retired from the ISP in 2012. Jane was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Springfield, IL. A visitation will take place on Friday, March 21, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville, IL, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Boniface with Fr. Chris Trummer presiding. Interment will be at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
