Funeral services at 10 AM on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at Weber Funeral Home in Edwardsville, IL. Burial was at Forever Valley View in Edwardsville, IL. Mrs. Merkel was a member of Eden United CHurch of Christ in Edwardsville. She is survived by a son, Jeffrey Merkel; a daughter, Jan Kershaw; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. "Arch" Merkel; 1 brother and 1 sister.
