James "Jim" Reed Obituary

James "Jim" Reed, 76, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away on January 25, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.

Jim was born on September 3, 1949, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He worked as a furnace operator at Laclede Steel until his retirement, and later worked as a landscaper.

Jim was known for his deep love of family, his passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and his enthusiasm for football and baseball. He cherished time spent outdoors, enjoyed a good game of poker, and lived life on his own terms. Even after a motorcycle accident left him paralyzed, his spirit remained unbroken, and his love for Harleys, good times, and the people he cared about never wavered.

He is survived by his children, Zach (Nina) Reed, of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Debbie Pauketat, of Los Angeles, California; his grandchildren, Hayden Reed, and Gidget Pauketat; his former spouse, Janet Scheyer, of Edwardsville; his sister, Sharon Deppe, of Wood River; his nieces, Ann Clayton, and Angie Holtmann; and his nephew, the late Jimmy Deppe.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Marion Reed of Tooele, Utah; his mother, Katherine "Kitty" Cicka Reed, of Edwardsville; and his sister, Kathleen Sue.

Per his wishes, Jim has chosen to be cremated. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville, IL, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.  Condolences may be shared online at weberfuneralhome.com
