Helen Newton Obituary

Helen Ann Newton, age 86, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at her residence. She was born June 16, 1939, in Highland, IL, the daughter of the late Albert & Dorothy (Staden) Watsek. Helen is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gary V. Newton, whom she married March 23, 1959; three daughters, Pam Bornemann & husband Dan of Edwardsville, Patti Schaake & husband Mark of Edwardsville, Mary Jo Cote & husband Ron of Grafton, IL; one son, Brett Newton & wife Ashley of Lake St. Louis, MO; twelve grandchildren, Kevin (Ghen) Bornemann, Julie (Johnny) Dubuque, Ryan (Mariel) Bornemann, Kelly Bornemann, Jacob (Megan) Schaake, Kyle (Lydia) Schaake, Tyler Cote, Justin Cote, Bailey Cote, Betsy (Blake) Higdon, Amelia Newton, & Ben Newton; ten great grandchildren, Leah & Kylie Bornemann, Sophie & Chloe Dubuque, Ava Bornemann, Drake, J.J., Sam Schaake, Brixon Schaake, & Zane Cote. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Ellen Lohr-Behme and several in-laws and her beloved cat Harley. Helen was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, The Daughters of Isebella, Lamba Psi Sorority, and was a volunteer for Hospice of Southern Illinois. She enjoyed playing golf, flower arranging, bridge club & was an avid sports fan. Most of all Helen loved being surrounded by and spending time with her family. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Boniface with the Very Reverend Jeffrey Goeckner officiating. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Riverbend Down Syndrome Association. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois for all their care and kindness while taking care of Helen. Weber & Rodney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
