Helen Long Obituary

Helen L. Long, age 84, of Edwardsville, died at 8:42 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville. She was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Hillview, the daughter of the late James H. and Beatrice V. Linzy Markham. She married Eugene W. Schmidt on May 26, 1941. He preceded her in 1982. She then married Joe Long on May 4, 2001. He survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Carla G. Rush of Edwardsville who is currently serving in the Merchant Marines; five step-sons, Roger Long of Gamaliel, Ark., Marshall Long of Goodman, Mo., Randy Long of Edwardsville, Dale Long of Pontoon Beach and Thomas Long of St. Louis and one grandchild Ltjg. Aaron Rush, USN, of Norfolk, Va. She was preceded in death by one son Dan L. Schmidt. Mrs. Long was a retired librarian from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. After her retirement, she lived in Florida for eight years and New Mexico for one year. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Edwardsville, the Daughters of American Revolution, V.F.W. Post 1299 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 199 Auxiliary, Illinois Kampers Chapter, Good Sam Club and a member of the Garden Club. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Weber Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elaine Smith officiating. Interment will be in Bartlett Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials are suggested to Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, Or. 97502 or Daughters of American Revolution.
