Gary A. Maag

Gary A. Maag, age 65, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away after a long illness on August 13, 2025, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Gary was born on August 22, 1959, in Carbondale, IL, the son of the late O. Eugene “Gene” & Cecilia F. (Stackwick) Maag. Gary married Tracy A. Baker on July 28, 1990, and just recently celebrated 35 years of marriage. Besides his wife, Gary is survived by his two children, Paige E. Maag, of Glen Carbon, IL, and Payne E. Maag, of Glen Carbon, IL; two brothers, Michael E. Maag & wife Carol, of Maryville, IL and Gregory J. Maag, of Edwardsville, IL; two sisters, Karen L. Keener & husband Ken, of Bethalto, IL and Grace A. Gerstenecker, of Maryville, IL; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

Gary attended Edwardsville High School and swam on the EHS and Florissant Valley swim teams, winning several medals for the butterfly stroke. He graduated from SIUE and served as a Probation Officer for Madison County for 25 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and beloved dog, Blue. He also enjoyed music, traveling, NASCAR, St. Louis Blues hockey, playing cards, eating, and telling dad jokes.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, at 10:00 am also at the funeral home with Harlan Bloodworth presiding. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery in Edwardsville.
