Eugene L. Mayberry

Eugene Lincoln Mayberry, age 96, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at his residence with his family by his side.  Eugene was born on February 12, 1929, in Glen Carbon, IL, the son of the late William Robert & Susie Adell (Young) Mayberry.  Eugene married Agnes Jo (Schwehr) Mayberry on June 4, 1955, in Grantfork, IL at Grantfork Evangelical Church.  Besides his wife of 70 years, Eugene is survived by two daughters,  Jill Ellen Schulte & husband John of Edwardsville, IL, and Jana Lynn Goodwin & husband Mark, of Danville, IL; five grandchildren, Patrick (Carly) Goodwin, of Danville, IL, Kaitlyn (Perry Hess) Goodwin, of Jacksonville, FL, Rev. Michael Schulte, of Atlanta, GA, Emily Schulte, of Edwardsville, IL,  and Ellen (Jayveon Hawkins) Schulte, of Edwardsville, IL; and five great grandchildren, Jade Schulte, Caylin & Aubree Collins, Matèo Hawkins, & Rhylan Goodwin.  Besides his parents Eugene was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Gregor; two brothers, William Mayberry and Lawrence Mayberry; and a grandson, Kevin Goodwin.   After graduating high school Eugene went to work for the Illinois Terminal Railroad.  Eugene joined the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. After his military service Eugene went back to working at the railroad and continued working there while earning a degree in business from McKendree College.  Eugene then took a career in the insurance field working for almost 30 years at Florist Mutual Insurance Company and another 8 years part time at Cassens Insurance Agency.  Eugene was an active member of Eden Church in Edwardsville for over 60 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, and a board member of Eden Village. Eugene was also a member of the American Legion Post #1299, a member of the Masons Lodge #99 for 60 years, and several other community service organizations including the Optimist Club and Jaycees.  A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Eden Church in Edwardsville, IL.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am also at the church with Rev. John Roberts presiding.    The family suggests memorials to Eden Church.  The family would also like to thank the Orange North Hospice Team from Hospice of Southern Illinois for their compassion and kindness through this difficult time.
