Donald "Duke" Southard Obituary

Donald C. “Duke” Southard, age 88, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Addington Place of Edwardsville.  Duke was born on November 25, 1936, in Poag, IL, the son of the late Clyde “Buck” & Frieda (Rauch) Southard.  Duke married Christine (Deist) Southard on November 1, 1962, at Eden Church in Edwardsville.  Besides his wife of 62 years, Duke is survived by his daughter Kathy Bouse & her husband Don, of Edwardsville, IL; and several cousins and friends.  As a young man Duke was a tap dancer dancing at the MUNY and Wildey Theatres.  After high school, Duke joined the US Army reserves.  In 1961, he took a job at Illinois Power/Dynegy. Duke retired as a metershop foreman in 1999 after 38 years of service.  He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 309 for fifty plus years, the Madison County Farm Bureau, and a lifelong member of Eden Church. Duke was also an avid bowler and even bowled a perfect 300 game in the first ever sanctioned game at Montclaire Bowl on August 29, 1967.  After his retirement, Duke took up woodworking.  A private family service will take place, and interment will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana, IL.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Metro East Humane Society in Edwardsville.   Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
