Donald Jay Ohl, age 88, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on April 18, 1936, in Murphysboro, IL, the son of the late Elmer R. & Blanche E. (Brendel) Ohl. Don married Judith Kay Webber on September 10, 1960, in Peoria, she preceded him in death on March 7, 2011. Don graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1954 and went on to the University of Illinois on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1958. Don played basketball for the two seasons with the Peoria Caterpillar Tractor Co. and then went on to play in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons, Baltimore Bullets and St. Louis & Atlanta Hawks. He was a 5-time NBA East All Star and retired in 1970 after 10 seasons. He is survived by one son, D.J. Ohl and wife Angie of Bonita Springs, FL; two daughters, Pamela Holecek & husband James of Biloxi, MS, Tracey Marshall & husband Dan of Ft. Myers, FL; grandfather of seven & great grandfather of six. Don was also preceded in death by his sister Patsy Jo Weber. There will be no visitation, and a private family service will be held at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home on Friday, December 6, 2024. Interment will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial to Alzheimer’s Assoc. in care of Weber & Rodney Funeral Home.
