Delbert Patty Obituary

Dr. Delbert "Del" Patty, age 68, of Glen Carbon, IL, died January 23, 2004, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. There is no visitation. Dr. Patty was born December 30, 1935 in Randolph Co, In., the son of the late Fletcher and Grace (Jones) Patty. Dr. Patty is survived by a son, Mark Patty of Edwardsville, Il.;and three sisters, Julia Haisley, Muncie, In., Juanita (Carroll) Barrett, Selma, In., and Diana (Jeff) Rinker, Muncie,In.; six nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. Dr. Patty retired from Southern Illinois University in the School of Education's deparment of curriculum and instruction. A member of the SIUE Faculty since 1976, Dr. Patty was a specialist in reading program administration, clinical reading and learning assessment. He was currently employed with Fontbonne University as professor in Department of Education/Special Education. Mr. Patty is a member of the Continental Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. He was active in numerous professional organizations, including International Reading Association, Lewis and Clark Reading Council, and board member of teh St. Louis Suburban Reading Council. Patty authored numerous scholarly books and research articles. He had been a member of the SIUE Faculty Senate and member of the Planning Council and the Rules and Procedures Council. Patty chaired the Committee for Higher Administrator Performance Appraisal (CHAPA) for six years. Dr. Patty earned his baccalaureate degree at Ball State Teachers College, master's degree at the University of Michigan, and doctorate at Ball State University. He taught elementary school at Roseville, Mi; was principal at Parker City, In., and Richmond, Indiana; held professorships at the University of Connecticut and Northern Illinois University; and was a department chair at Stephens College in Missouri. Memorials may be made to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Foundation, Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Mo. or a charity of donor's choice.
