Charles “Chuck” F. Hemmer, age 41, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Edwardsville, IL, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Chuck was born in Maryville, IL, on November 20, 1983, the son of Warren Hemmer, Sr and Mary (Shea) Hemmer. Besides his parents, Chuck is survived by his two brothers, Warren Hemmer, Jr & his wife Robin, of Anaheim, CA, and Edward Hemmer & his spouse Scott, of West Frankfort, IL; nieces and nephews, Amanda, Tanner, Heath of Anaheim, CA and Samara Hemmer, of Albuquerque, NM. Aunt and uncles, Thomas Hemmer & Diana, of Belleville, IL, Jenny Penrod & Dan, of Granite City, IL, Mike Hemmer & Heather, of Charleston, SC; and cousins: Angelica, Beaux, Debra, Sam, Gabriel, Kyle, Sarah, Shannon, Derek, Noah, Alex, Olivia. Chuck always enjoyed spending time with his mom’s cousin Bill Gliha of Brandon, FL. Chuck was preceded in death by his grandparents: William and Lola Hemmer and Mary C. Shea; uncles: William Hemmer, III and Robert Shea; both Navy veterans.
Chuck was a member of the Edwardsville High School graduating class of 2002. After high school Chuck enlisted in the US Army serving two combat tours in Iraq where he received numerous commendations including the Purple Heart. During his Army days, when not in Iraq, Chuck was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska as a member of the 172nd Stryker Brigade. After the Army, Chuck attended Santa Ana College in California pursuing a law enforcement degree but was pulled back to Illinois and began working in construction; when not working Chuck enjoyed hanging out with friends, reading, and playing games.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A committal service will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 11:30 am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
