Beverly A. Gorman, age 98, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, in Edwardsville, Illinois. Born on August 28, 1926, Beverly lived her entire life in Edwardsville. She was one of four children born to Gladys and Dr. LeRoy M. Fink, a dentist who served the Edwardsville community on Main Street for over 55 years.
In 1960, Beverly married James E. Gorman II, and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. Together, they shared many years of laughter, lively conversation and friendship with all who crossed their paths.
Beverly will be remembered for her elegant yet casual grace, engaging smile, and her outgoing friendly nature. A stranger to no one, she was deeply devoted to her roles as wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Her passions extended far beyond her family. Beverly traveled across multiple continents including North America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. She enjoyed long, lively walks with friends, regular trips to the YMCA across the street, and daily visits to the Edwardsville Public Library, where she immersed herself in newspapers and periodicals, always eager to explore new and diverse topics.
Unapologetic in her beliefs, Beverly stood firmly behind her family and her political views, and she welcomed spirited debates.
After raising seven children, Beverly and Jim embraced their well-earned evenings out, enjoying the many fine restaurants in Edwardsville. These outings were a welcome reprieve from the countless home-cooked dinners Beverly prepared over the years— served promptly at 6 PM. Among her many endearing qualities was her “worries" about Jim’s occasional lateness returning from sailing at Carlyle Lake, as she fretted over whether “their seats” at the corner of the bar in Andria’s might be taken. These favorite restaurants became more than just dining spots; they were cherished gathering places where Beverly and Jim built enduring friendships with people of all ages and walks of life.
Beverly is survived by her children: John G. Mudge (Joan), Stephen C. Mudge, Robert M. Mudge, William A. Mudge (Jennifer), Ann E. Gorman, James E. Gorman, III (Michelle), and Mary E. Gorman. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: John Mudge, Lauren Mudge, Jacob Mudge, Taylor Mudge, Jamie Skigen, Will Skigen, and Maggie Gorman. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John G. Mudge, who passed in 1959; her beloved husband James E. Gorman II; her sisters Doris Bardelmeier and Marion Richards; and her brother, Dr. LeRoy Fink.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edwardsville Public Library or the Edwardsville YMCA
