Betty Sue Glover Emert, age 86, of Maryville, IL, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025. Betty was born November 20, 1938, the daughter of the late Thelma (Wilson) Glover and William H. Glover in Clay City, IL. She married Clifford Allen Emert November 7, 1959, at Fourth Christian Church in St. Louis, MO, they were together 65 years.
Besides her husband, Betty is survived by her two daughters, Theresa Breen, of Humble, TX, and Elizabeth Mercer, of Cornelius, NC; a son, Randall Emert and wife Missi, of Georgia; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers, William Glover, of Thermopolis, WY, and Michael Glover & wife Gail, of Florida. Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Elinor Barber.
Betty graduated from Clay City Community High School in 1956 and from Missouri Baptist School of Nursing in 1959. She obtained her bachelor’s in nursing management from Tarkyo College in 1979 and her master’s in business from Lindenwood University in 1984. She worked as an RN in many different fields of nursing and had licenses in 5 states, before her retirement in 2006. The last 25 years were spent in education of Nursing Assistance, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Registered Nurses. Before complete retirement, she substituted as School Nurse in the Edwardsville district for 6 years. Betty was honored to be selected to help write the National State Board questions for the RN. She has been listed in Who’s Who in Nursing Education. She had her pen for volunteering from the Red Cross.
Betty was a very active member at LeClaire Christian Church in choir, mission ministry, Bond Christian Service camp, and other activities. She was also active in the community and the organization board of Faith in Action and later President for Faith in Action for several years then a volunteer driver. She had her CPR instructor’s certificate from American Heart Association then later for the American Red Cross for several years. She was Memorial Chairman and on the Board of the American Heart Association for 8 years.
Betty and Clifford moved to Florida for 9 years before returning to the area. She was active in Christ’s Church of Marion County, activities at Summer Glen, and volunteered at the hospital in Ocala for 7 years.
Betty also travelled land, river, and ocean cruises including destinations in Europe, the Caribbean and South America. She really enjoyed singing with the 60’s Chicks for several years.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 10, 2025, at Leclaire Christian Church, 1914 Esic Drive, Edwardsville, IL, from 10 am until 12 pm. A funeral service will follow at 12 pm. She will be cremated and later laid to rest at Clay City, IL, Cemetery.
