Virginia M. Murphey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Virginia Margaret Murphey, age 93, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville. She was born December 9, 1924, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Virgil & Irene Lawrence. Virginia owned and operated a beauty shop in Belleville, Illinois, for many years before retiring. She then went to work at the Madison County Assessor’s Office for seven years. She married James E. Murphey on July 20, 1946, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death. She is survived by four sons, James T. Murphey & wife Susan of Panama City, Panama, Daniel L. Murphey & wife Debbie of Glen Carbon, John W. Murphey & wife Mary Stewart of Charleston, SC, and David R. Murphey & wife Kay of Edwardsville; six grandsons, Matthew Murphey & wife Holly, Todd Murphey & wife Amanda, Patrick Murphey, Shawn Murphey & wife Jamie, Ryan Murphey, and Scott Murphey & wife Katie; six step grandchildren, Vince Sigite & Liz, Ryan Sigite, Nicholas Sigite & Tatiana, Sally Sheppard, Shalyn Watson, and Whitney Downer; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Robert “Bobby” Lawrence & wife Jerri of Springfield, Missouri; and one sister, Betty Morrow of Harrisburg, Illinois. Virginia was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and very involved in many of the church activities. She also was a volunteer at the Madison County Children & Family Services. Virginia loved spending time with all of her many grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. John Shank officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. The family requests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church.
