Vernon Lee Koenig

Vernon Lee Koenig, age 83, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Evelyn’s House in St. Louis. He was born June 2, 1938, in Edwardsville, the son of the late Edward & Dora (Ziegler) Koenig. Vern worked as an Architectural Draftsman in the area for many years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Phyllis H. (Hughes) Koenig. They were married on October 7, 1961, at the Immanuel Methodist Church in Edwardsville. Vernon is also survived by one son Keith A. Koenig & wife Mary of St. Louis; daughter Krista L. Walker & husband Ken of Kansas, Illinois; two grandchildren, Darcy Molinar, Amanda Brodeur; two great grandchild, Xavier & Amelia Molinar; one sister, Doris Bergst of Danville, California; several nieces & a nephew. He was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Koenig & a sister, Dorothy Creamer. Vern was a member & Elder of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville. He was also a member of the church choir & the Lutheran Men’s Club. Vern served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1965 and was a member of the American Legion Post 199 in Edwardsville. He was an avid sports fan, loved playing golf & following the St. Louis Cardinals. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville, with Rev. John Shank officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville. The family request memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church.
