Ryan K. Marten, age 33, of Maryville, IL, passed away at 11:23 am on Monday, September 14, 2020, at his residence. Ryan was born March 20, 1987, at Beale Air Force Base, California. He is the son of Tracy (Hancock) Davis and the late Robert J. Marten. Besides his mother, Ryan is also survived by a brother, Tyler Marten of the U.S. Air Force; 2 sisters Jacqueline Toigo & husband Andrew of Edwardsville, Illinois; and Courtney Marten of Collinsville; a grandmother, Doris Hancock of Williamstown, Massachusetts; 3 nieces, Taylor Johnson, Ally Moore, and Joella Toigo; He is also survived by a number of extended family and friends. Besides his father, Ryan was preceded in death by a sister Jessica Marten. Ryan entered the United States Marine Corps in 2005 and was honorably discharged in 2006. Following his military service, Ryan enrolled and graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. While completing college, Ryan interned with the Southern District of Illinois United States Marshal Service and found his calling. After successful completion of his training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Ryan accepted a position as a US Deputy Marshal in Pensacola, FL in May of 2010. In September of 2013, he arranged a transfer and returned to the St Louis area to be closer to his family. Ryan quickly became a leader in warrants and was promoted to Protective Investigations Inspector. Not long after, Ryan was promoted again to Supervisory Deputy US Marshal over Court and Prisoner Operations. He was a mentor to countless young Deputies, District Security Officers, District Enforcement Officers, and Task Force Officers. Ryan was loved by everyone that he encountered. He had a heart of gold and an unselfish soul full of devotion. Ryan was known for having an immense amount of love for his family, friends, country, and of course—the Dallas Cowboys. He was the definition of a true patriot. He will be deeply missed and remembered by all those who had the opportunity to cross paths with him. A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 18, 2020, at First Baptist Church Maryville, 7110 State Route 162, Maryville, IL 62062. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at First Baptist Church Maryville. Due to the current COVID restrictions, social distancing guidelines will be observed and face masks are required. Interment with military honors will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
