Bettie Jean Hudgens

Bettie Jean Hudgens, age 92, of Edwardsville, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022, in St. Louis. She was born on April 13, 1929, in DeSoto, Illinois, the daughter of the late Charles & Verna (Sizemore) Walker. Bettie married Billy Hudgens on June 10, 1950, in Carbondale, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, daughter, Charnell Woelfel, and one brother, Dean Walker. She is survived by daughter, J’Deana Twesten and husband Jack of Glen Carbon; son-in-law, David Woelfel, six grandchildren; Joshua Woelfel and wife Kristine of Edwardsville, Joanna Coon and husband Matt, of St. Charles, MO, Jacob Woelfel and wife Nikki, of St. Louis, MO, Jada Patterozzi and husband Dominic of Charlotte, NC, Derek Twesten of Edwardsville, Elise Nixon and husband Blake of Nashville, TN; and seven great grandchildren. Bettie was active at Esic Baptist Church and Eden Church in Edwardsville, Woman’s Guild and Circle 3 at Eden. She was a volunteer at the YMCA and Edwardsville School District #7. Bettie was the recipient of several awards, Outstanding Senior Award in Physical Education from SIUE, Lifetime Achievement Award from Junior Service, Certificate of Appreciation from the Edwardsville Fire Department and she was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. There will be no visitation and a private family service will be held followed by burial at Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Edwardsville YMCA, Eden Church or ESIC Baptist Church.
